A crushing 100-97 overtime loss to the Quebec Kebs on the road Friday night dropped the Halifax Rainmen to 9-4 on the season, and to fourth place in the PBL standings.
What made the loss especially tough was dropping a lead to the last place Kebs in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter after the Rainmen led throughout the game.
Desmond Ferguson led the Rainmen with 22 points, but the Rainmen gave up a nine-point cushion (71-62) going into the final quarter, allowing the Kebs to tie the game at 91, and then win it in overtime.
All four Rainmen losses this season have come on the road, including the last two straight in Quebec, and also last Sunday in Vermont to the Frost Heaves. Still unbeaten at home, the Rainmen will have to regroup on the road as they face the defending league champs, the Rochester RazorSharks, Saturday, March 13, in Rochester.
Next Saturday’s game is a key one for the Rainmen as Rochester, 9-3, sits directly above Halifax in third place in the PBL standings. The Rainmen, then, return home to the friendly confines of the Metro Centre on Sunday, March 21, to take on the league-leading Puerto Rico Capitanes.
