Hoops for Haiti donated $31,000 to Unicef in support of their ongoing relief efforts in Haiti today at the Halifax Rainmen home game against the Rochester RazorSharks. Lee Bragg, CEO of EastLink, challenged Halifax Rainmen team owner, Andre Levingston to a shoot-off. The challenge was $500 per shot, with Bragg and Levingston each shooting 20 free throws. “The Rainmen are privileged to be in a position to help raise funds and awareness for on-going relief efforts in Haiti,” said Levingston. “Facing Lee today in front of the Rainmen fans was an honour because the real winners are Unicef and ultimately the people of Haiti.”
Levingston won the coin toss to shoot first; he sunk 14 in front of over 4,000 fans. Bragg wasn’t shaken by the solid effort and $7,000 price tag; he sunk 17, costing Levingston $8,500. “Hoops for Haiti is a wonderful undertaking by the Rainmen and I am proud to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause,” said Bragg.
Fellow Rainmen sponsor Norsat Eblaghi, President, Alumitech Distribution Centre, was on hand to take Bragg’s last shot, and announce that he was matching the donation, making the total to Unicef $31,000. “Alumitech is happy to partner with the Rainmen and support them in this worthy and urgent cause.”
